Vietnam National Assembly Second Dialogue

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), through the USAID Wildlife Asia project, and the Office of the National Assembly of Vietnam are bringing together top government leaders and relevant stakeholders today for a high-level dialogue with the theme “Strengthening legislation and communication to reduce demand for illegal wildlife products”. The event is the second in a series of three activities organized by the USAID Wildlife Asia project aimed at ending the illegal consumption of wildlife products in Vietnam. Vietnamese government leaders and conservation expert will discuss how Vietnam can improve its wildlife-related policies and legal system for wildlife management and protection, as well as promote demand reduction activities to bring high efficiency for wildlife conservation.

Specifically, USAID Wildlife Asia is working with journalists to improve their understanding of wildlife trafficking from source to destination countries, which have a black-market demand for Africa wildlife and its products. USAID PROTECT has provided training to a select number of journalists who are interested in covering conservation and protection efforts in Tanzania for both flora and fauna, which covers many of the animals that are poached and trafficked and being sent to Asia.
