Workshop to Finalize Lao PDR CITES National Ivory Action Plan (NIAP)

USAID Wildlife Asia, with partners US Department of Justice (DOJ) and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) convened the Dialogue Workshop on the Draft NIAP in February 15, 2019. This workshop aims to finalize recommendations made at the February 2019 Dialogue Workshop and succeeding internal consultations by Government of Lao PDR with their various agency stakeholders, and to utilize USAID Wildlife Asia-WCS-DOJ NIAP recommendations.

This event aims at:

  1. Briefing and brainstorming on best practices, and review of the National Ivory Action Plan Progress Report and next steps.
  2. Policy best practices, model provisions and legislations presented to Lao PDR government during the reviewing process og the NIAP 2019 – 2023 leading CITES-enabling legislation.
  3. Recommendations on improvements and revisions to key provisions towards up-listing their CITES-enabling legislation and strategy for NIAP 2019 -2023.
  4. Agree on a strategy or work agenda to support Government of Lao PDR’s policy-related commitments to CITES and ASEAN
  5. Finalize Lao PDR’s NIAP 2019-2023.
